Melbourne From The Air

I was so lucky to have been bought a helicopter tour of Melbourne as a leaving gift from my old work colleagues in the UK, it was such an amazing present and is typical of the people they are, to have thought of something so different and exciting to do.

Cathryn and I had been looking forward to our flight for weeks and weeks so when the day finally came we were like kids on Christmas morning! I can't properly describe what an amazing experience it was, the sensation was like nothing I've felt before, a mixture of flying in a small plane and sailing in a small boat is the only way I can put it!

The view from the sky was amazing. Melbourne is very flat and spread out so we were able to see for miles and miles and our Pilot, Guy was very good at pointing out the different suburbs and landmarks and helping you keep your bearings. We got to fly right over the high speed chicane of the Albert Park Grand Prix circuit, the tennis courts of Rod Laver Arena, the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground), as well as Flinders Street and Federation Square.

To top it all off we took the flight on my birthday weekend, what a great way to start a cracking couple of days!

Fun In The Sun

Since starting the Eyes Open Photography Course a few weeks back it has been rare for Cathryn and I to go out without our camera. The beauty of taking an online course is that you can share your learning with anyone at any time. We both had loads of fun when we headed down to the river the other day to snap tonnes of photos of each other. I've already posted some of the photos I took of Cathryn (here) and now I thought I'd share some of the ones she took of me... I absolutely love them (believe me, I don't often like photos of myself)! I really love the way she's framed her shots, focusing on details and creating a sense of mystery by not shooting full length/clear photos.

I'm so pleased that Cathryn enrolled me in the course, it's totally changed the way I look at the world and it's provided us with a hobby that we can enjoy together.

Now, where did I put my camera...?!

Super Saturday!

It is rare that Cathryn and I have a really relaxing and chilled out day but last Saturday was an exception to that rule...we made a point of sleeping in for a while and then having a bumper 'breckie' (that's Australian for breakfast by the way) of pancakes and fresh OJ!

We then took a quick stroll around town so I could pick up the latest copy of Movement Bodyboard Mag, Cathryn could by herself a couple of nice little bits and pieces and I could finally get a new key cut for the car so I can go surfing without having to drag Cathryn along to 'car sit' while I'm getting to grips with the local breaks.

A nice steaming cuppa and the amazing photos in Movement got me amped for a surf of my own so I left Cathryn to bask in the beautiful winter sunshine that was streaming in through the bedroom window, while I took my new board for its maiden voyage! I surfed at 13th Beach for the first time and stayed in until it was pretty much dark, dropping into my best Aussie waves to date, perfect and hollow 3ft pits with plenty of power and fun ramps to play with!

I love days like this and hope that we can have more and more of them as we start to settle and build a home for ourselves in our new surroundings.
