As another year draws to a close and we prepare to leave Australia and head home to the UK, I've been reflecting on everything that has happened during the last 12-18 months and I've been looking forward to the many exciting things that are starting to glimmer on the horizon.

Every year, has its fair share of  ups and downs and 2013 has been no different...we have lost people we love very dearly, we have shared in the happiness of our best friends' wedding day, seen beautiful new babies join the world, endured the daily 9-5 monotony of working life and lived another year apart from our nearest and dearest.

We have learnt that you can never anticipate what life is going to throw at you, you just need to know that you'll be able to deal with whatever comes your way and that you'll come out of the other side smiling and stronger than before.

As Cathryn and I prepare to pack up our lives in Australia we are struck with an amazing array of feelings. We are equally excited, nervous, happy, sad, anxious and positive about the path that we are about to follow and how it will impact our lives. I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to do it without her. I have always known Cathryn to be an incredible person, someone who has unwavering determination and tenacity, but I have grown to respect her so much more as the years, months, weeks and days that we have spent together have rolled by, and as she faces and deals with so many challenging situations. I love her more now than I ever have.

So as we approach 2014, with no knowledge of what it truly holds for us, I do know that there will be ups and downs, happy and sad times, triumphs and defeats and I also know that I will face them all with an amazing person standing along side me and that we will have the love and support of our family and friends through it all.

Its time to step on to that diving board and take the plunge...
